What is "CN" in Shoe Size? (Let's Find Out in Detail)

What Does CN Mean in Shoe Size? (All-Inclusive Details)

When you're shopping for shoes and see "CN" in the size, it's referring to China. As a matter of fact, the term stands for the Chinese sizing system. You will usually see "CN" if you are purchasing items from Chinese brands or retailers. Similarly, you may also see the CN label if you shop on international or online platforms that feature Chinese sellers.

However, the thing to note here is that the Chinese sizing standards are different from those used in other regions, such as the United States, Europe, or the United Kingdom.

If you don't want to face fitting issues, it is crucial you understand the difference. For this, you should consider sizing charts available on the brand's website.

In most cases, you will see this chart:

If you’re facing trouble converting the CN size into US, UK, and EU, then don’t get worried. We’re now explaining how you can do this in a minute.

How Do you Convert "CN" Shoe Sizes to Other Commonly Used Systems?

You can easily convert the "CN" shoe size to others just by doing a simple addition. Let's start with CN to US shoe size conversion.

Keep in mind that CN sizes are generally smaller than US sizes. We've noted that adding 1.5 to 2 sizes to your CN size can give a comparable US size. Here's an example. If your CN size is 36, add 2. You will get 38 (or 3.8 CN).

Similarly, converting CN to UK shoe sizes is super simple. Just like with US sizes, you can add two sizes to your CN size to get an approximate UK size. For example, if your CN size is 38, your UK size might be around 4.0.

Now, let's talk about CN to EU Shoe Size Conversion. It's a bit different than others, as you don't have to add or subtract any number. Fortunately, in many cases, CN sizes are already close to EU sizes. For example, if your CN size is 40, your EU size could also be around 40.

Remember again: These are not universal numbers. Different brands have different sizing, so always read charts before you do anything.

4 Tips for Accurate Conversions: Do These Things

What Does CN Mean in Shoe Size? (All-Inclusive Details)

We've been converting CN to other systems for a very long time. Over time, we've noted that some things made the job easier. You can also try them to get the correct shoe for yourself.

Ready?

Here are some of the proven tips for accurate conversions that have worked every time for us.

Tip #01: Refer to Brand Size Charts

Always start by checking the brand size charts. The reason is that different brands may have slight variations in sizing. If you're not careful, chances are you don't convert CN correctly.

If this happens, you will end up with shoes in the wrong size (which can be super frustrating).

But where can you find the brand's size chart? Well, you can visit the official website or ask for help from your shoe-enthusiast friend. Furthermore, people have also shared the charts on the online platforms as well.

Tip #02: Consider Foot Measurements in CM

If possible, you should measure your foot length in centimeters. In our experience, this measurement can be more accurate. For this, you can put your foot on a piece of paper and draw around it. Then, you can use a ruler or tape to find out the exact measurements in centimeters.

Tip #03: Check Customer Reviews

Sometimes, previous buyers share their experiences with sizing in product reviews. We've found valuable insights from there, which is why we also suggest you read them.

If lots of reviews are about sizing complaints, then it's better not to buy such shoes.

Tip #04: Be Open to Adjustments

Sizing may vary. Therefore, never be afraid to adjust slightly based on your own comfort preferences. If you're between sizes, consider rounding up for a bit more room.

But the main question is, "How can you measure your shoe size accurately?" Well, worry not! We're here with a step-by-step guide that will help you.

How is Shoe Size Measured? (A Complete Guide)

To measure shoe size easily, you will have to take some steps. These involve gathering supplies, measuring length, considering width, and many more.

Here's what we do.

Step 1: Collect Tools/Materials

We always start with gathering all the tools and materials we will need to measure the shoe size. You must get:

  • A ruler or a foot-measuring device
  • A piece of paper and a pen.
  • An eraser (if you make any mistake).

If you want, you can also get those things that can make your shoes look "customized" or "unique" after you buy a pair. It's optional, but we've made a guide on the reasons why everyone must own a customized pair of shoes.

Step 2: Measure Your Foot Length

When you have all the things, the next step is to measure the length of your feet. First, do it with the right foot and then the left one. The reason you should measure both feet is that they can vary in size.

Here's what to do: Use a ruler or a foot measuring tool to find the distance from the tip of your longest toe to the back of your heel. Keep in mind that this measurement is the basis for determining your shoe size.

If you're hesitant to do it, then you can also follow these steps:

  • Stand with one foot on the paper. Ensure that your heel is against a wall or another straight edge.
  • Use the pen to make a mark at the tip of your longest toe. This is usually the big toe.

Step 3: Consider Foot Width

Most people don't measure foot width and end up buying shoes that are too tight or too loose. Therefore, we never advise you to skip this step.

Remember that some people have wider or narrower feet. You can use a ruler or measuring tape here as well. You can then share the width details with the employee or text the company for recommendations and help.

Step 4: Understanding Sizing Systems

The next step is conversion. If the measurement is in inches, you can only use this directly for sizing in the US or UK systems. That's why it's crucial you note the measurements in the centimeters.

You can then compare the readings with the sizing charts. If you're shopping online, you can simply place an order after looking at the chart. However, if you're shopping in a physical store, then we suggest you personally try each shoe before you buy it.

Simple, right?

So, that's all about how you can measure your shoe size properly and convert it into CN. Remember to be careful at every point, as even a slight mistake can cause frustration.

Final thoughts

In a nutshell, CN stands for Chinese sizing. You will see this term on those shoes that are made in China or have any link with the Chinese brands. You can even call it an international unit for shoe sizing.

Here, we discussed how you can convert CN into US, UK, and EU with simple math. Furthermore, you also learned how to measure your foot size accurately. Remember to follow all the steps cautiously if you don't want to purchase the wrong-sized shoes.

That's everything about what it means in shoe size.
